Every contribution matters: Join the global movement for a sustainable future

The global call to action for International Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5 December is more than just an observance; it is a global celebration of the monumental impact of human kindness, commitment, and action. This year, under the inspiring theme, Every Contribution Matters, IVD 2025 takes on historic significance. It marks the global launch of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026), a worldwide movement to recognise and amplify the vital role of volunteers in accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Did you know that an estimated one billion people volunteer worldwide, acting as catalysts for positive change? While most of this work (around 70%) happens informally within communities, every action, big or small, contributes to the collective good. At The Community Revolution (TCR), we know that people-led solutions are the most powerful way to tackle our shared challenges, which is why we cite knowledge, technology, and community activism as the essential tools for our mission.

Our mission is built on your values

Our purpose is simple: to address environmental injustice and improve lives across our global community. We are a volunteer-run organisation, meaning your contribution is our driving force. Our mission is built on eight core values, which are all realised through the commitment of people like you.

  • Impact and Accountability: You are results-oriented and driven to deliver tangible, positive outcomes. Our structure ensures good record-keeping and rigorous performance measurement, proving that your efforts deliver meaningful change.
  • Sustainability and Knowledge and Innovation: You believe in long-term solutions, responsible resource use, and preserving traditional knowledge alongside new technology. You will help us generate new knowledge and apply creative, evidence-based solutions in areas like sustainable food systems and eliminating energy poverty.
  • Empowerment and Diversity and Inclusion: Your work with us actively enables individuals to realise their full potential through capacity-building programmes. We champion equity and actively work to address systematic inequalities for underserved groups, including young people and women across countries like Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, The Gambia, Namibia, and Rwanda.
  • Collaboration: You recognise that success depends on working effectively with communities, partners, and our multidisciplinary teams.
  • Leadership: Your commitment helps us drive progress by establishing thought leadership in our thematic areas, and through our commitment to action-centred leadership, we focus on nurturing you as a future leader in your work and community.

By volunteering with The Community Revolution, you directly live and support these principles, translating our shared values into real-world action.
