About the job
We are currently recruiting for a Journalist to work within the content team of a social enterprise, which offers services (social, digital etc) to local communities and SMEs, particularly those run by (or serving) the following groups:
- Black ethnic minorities
- Women
- Young people (16-24 years old)
- Migrant families
- Groups suffering from digital exclusion
We are looking for an individual who is passionate, hands-on and eager to learn. The role is likely to involve working on multiple exciting projects so the individual should be able to multitask.
You create the news! As a journalist you’ll conduct in-depth research and investigations on various topics. You’ll collaborate with the team to identify potential campaign ideas, conduct research, compile and analyse results, and present them to the media through press releases, pitches, and phone calls.
The organisation is also working on developing a podcast that focuses on sustainable development, with a particular focus on Africa. If you have experience and interest in these areas, then we are keen to hear from you!
Roles and responsibilities
- Research, write, edit, and proofread news stories, features, and articles.
- Read press releases, interview sources, and verify statements and facts.
- Create scripts for podcast episodes. This will help guide the team on the structure of each episode and what content needs to be recorded/collated for each episode.
- Host and record audio/video discussions, and present reports and features.
- Coordinate with the business development team for new assignments.
- Collaborate with customers on sponsored content.
- Attend events (both virtual and live) as required.
Experience
Any prior experience in journalism and audio/video production (podcast, TV etc) is desirable.
Skills and competences
- Proven journalism and research skills.
- A good phone manner when calling senior industry representatives.
- Ability to maintain ethical and objective standards in reporting.
- Exceptional communication and networking skills, with the ability to effectively extract information.
