About the role

Are you an Agronomist looking for an exciting volunteer opportunity to make a difference? We are currently seeking a passionate and hands-on individual to join the agriculture team of our social enterprise. Our organisation focuses on providing services to rural communities and SMEs, with a particular emphasis on supporting Black ethnic minorities, women, young people (aged 16-24 years old), migrant families, and groups facing digital exclusion.

As an Agronomist in our team, you will play a crucial role in improving crop productivity and enhancing agricultural practices. You will have the opportunity to work on multiple exciting projects, making multitasking abilities essential for this position.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Develop and manage plans for crop improvement and increased production.
  • Coordinate land development projects for agricultural and forestry areas.
  • Plan and oversee production at agricultural businesses, fruit and vegetable farms, livestock holdings, and agri-food companies.
  • Manage plant treatment and green spaces in agricultural, forestry, and urban environments.
  • Conduct laboratory testing of plant and agri-food products.
  • Ensure agricultural, agri-food, livestock, forestry, and environmental quality certifications.
  • Promote environmental sustainability, safety, and quality.
  • Implement land-use planning in compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Undertake landscape design projects.
  • Provide management and technical consultancy services to companies and organizations.
  • Facilitate the sale of professional agricultural products and technology.
  • Advise farmers and agricultural managers on crop selection, planting, and care.

Skills and competencies

  • A minimum of 1 years experience in agronomy work is ideal.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture; Master’s degree in Agriculture with a specialisation in soil science is a plus.
  • Proficiency in precision agriculture tools and techniques.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and diagnostic scientific software.
  • Excellent active listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional research, decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation in the agricultural technology sector.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment for chemical, physical, and biological assessments.
